Spring came to an end and Summer begins......

We had a nice but short Spring.  Spring took a long time to come to New England this year but the end of Spring and now the beginning of Summer has been awesome so far.  As for the girls, we were busy with Callie's track and her travel soccer team along with Emily's lacrosse team.

Callie started off well with Track this year.  She was named one of the captains for the girls team and showed much improvement from the first track meet to the second.  Unfortunately she injured her Achilles and after a doctor visit we found out she had grown three inches over the winter, went up a couple shoe sizes and now had Achilles tendinitis.  So her track season came to a halt but she still did the hurdles and participated in practices.  As for her soccer team, the Cosmos, she had to sit out a couple games but after some physical therapy and awesome taping techniques, she was able to finish the soccer season.  The Cosmos have come to the end now.  All the girls will be off to High School next year so there will be no Fall travel team.   They may be able to bring some of the team together for a Spring season if there is interest.

I mentioned that Callie grew three inches over the winter.  Well, I believe she has grown about another inch since her doctor appt. in early May.  She has shot up and is  the same height as Emily now.

As for Emily, she had a great LAX season!  She made the Varsity team but got more playing time on JV.  She found her aggressiveness inside her and kicked butt at defending the ball!!  I got some great photos of her looking her opponent in the eyes.  :)

Emily also went to Prom as you all know.  She did an awesome job picking out a beautiful dress, doing her own hair for the night, making sure she had the right make up for pictures and doing her own nails.  This was not her prom as prom here is for the juniors.  But she was asked to go by a friend who was a junior.  We started out here at home taking a few pictures then we all headed down to the Budweiser plant where the Clydesdale's live.  Every prom couple and their families were there.  It was quite an event and lots of picture taking!!  She had a blast!!

Another milestone for Emily was getting her drivers license.  She is enjoying her freedom of driving to school, driving to meet with friends and now driving to work.  She is now employed at Dunkin Donuts!    She has been working there a little over a week and enjoys it.  She comes home with funny stories of co-workers and customers.

Both girls have enjoyed their first week of summer vacation with invites to pool parties, beach, bon fires, etc.  We can't seem to keep Emily home.  But she is having a great time and seems to have a great group of friends.  Callie is home more but still having a lot of fun with friends.  We went to the beach one day last week with some of Callie's friends.  The New Hampshire coast is not NC or the Emerald Coast but still nice to sit and listen to the waves and smell the beach and of course dig our feet in the sand!!!  I am not one to go into that cold water but the girls do it!!

Emily will be going to her first sleepover camp at the end of July into August for Field Hockey.  She will be going with some of her teammates.  She is looking forward to that.  They both start conditioning with the high school coaches in the next week or so.  After we return from our annual NC beach trip they will both have tryouts for their teams and Callie will also be attending marching band camp at the high school in between soccer tryouts.  Whew.....the busy schedules will start up again.

So I have a lot of pictures to highlight the end of the school year.  As always I will post the pics and describe them.

The Merrimack Cosmos last game.  Jumping and cheering before the

game!

The Cosmos - the end of an era!

Nothing better than a selfie with the coach!!

This pretty much sums up the relationship of these girls.  Lots of laughs!!!

I think sometimes these girls think they could be cheerleaders!

Raina, Callie, Kait and Alicia

These two!!  Love them!  Take note....Callie is shorter than Alicia.  This was end of May or Beginning of June.  As of last night, 6/29, Callie is just a tad taller than Alicia.

One of the  moms got a cake and put this poster together.  I got a bit teary seeing all the pics.  Then I realized I took most of them.

On to Track and the Sports Recognition night.

This was the start and finish of her 400m race. So proud of her finishing the race and getting a better time than before!!

Raina, Bailey, Alicia, Callie and Grace at the Sports Recognition night.  They clean up well, don't they?  These are some of Callie's closest friends.  Callie and the rest of the captains gave a wonderful speech this night.  I have it on video but can't seem to upload it to the blog.

Now we move onto the last middle school concert and music recognition night.

The Trumpeters!

My four favorite trumpeters.  Sadly Daniel will not be continuing with band at the high school. But the three girls will do marching band and soccer together.

Next up - Music Recognition Night

Here is Callie getting her certificate for all the things she did this year in Band.
Concert Band, Jazz Band, NHBDA Honor Band and Solo and Ensemble

Her friends with their old Chorus teacher!  Callie had him for chorus at the upper elementary and he is now the Chorus teacher at the middle school.  The girls love him!

Mr. Moore doing his famous Donkey Cough!  This one is especially for you, Dad!!!

The last week of school we got a letter in the mail inviting us to the 8th grade awards ceremony.  Apparently you only get invited if  your child is receiving an award.  Callie didn't know she was getting an award and we didn't know what award she was getting.  We didn't tell her about the letter so when she walked into the gym and saw us in the stands she was surprised and figured out she was getting an award.  Well, she not only got an award but she got TWO awards!!
She received the President's Education Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence in FACS(sewing, interior design and cooking) and Music!  She doesn't go to a traditional music class because she is in band and during music class she has trumpet lessons.  So her music award was from her band teacher.

Callie and her friend Imane.  They spotted us in the crowd right away.  Imane's dad will be Callie's French teacher next year at the high school.

Here is Callie getting her music award.

Happy Girl!

Proud Parents!!

Next Up....Emily goes to Prom!

Here are some of my favorite pictures from Prom!!

Emily getting ready!

Anthony and Emily at Bud!

The best part for Emily at Bud, I think, was seeing all her friends.  I just followed her with my camera and she would find a friend, hug them and turn to me to ask for a picture.
This is her good friend, Jeff.  Jeff and Emily went to the  Semi dance back in December together.  They are still very good friends.

Here is Emily with two of her good friends, Syd and Jessie.  They play field hockey together.

Emily and her two oldest friends, Rebecca and Morgan!!

Here Emily is with more field hockey friends.
Addy, Callie, Charlotte, Julia, Mackenzie and Kayla.

Shoes in hand, they were off to prom!!!

LAX highlights are next.

Like I said before, Emily improved her aggressive skills in LAX this year.  She did have a couple minor setbacks during the season.  She injured her hip flexor (sp?) and ended up with pneumonia.  She had to sit out a couple games but when she got back in the game she was ready to defend!

Here she is running down the field with the ball.

Again running down the field with the ball.

She had contact with the ball a lot more this year.

While we were looking at pictures I said to Emily, "It looks like you are looking right into this girl's eyes."  She replied, "Yes, I was.  It makes them nervous when I do that!"

Moving on to the LAX banquet......

Silly girls!  Jessie, Julia, Emily and Callie.

Pretty girls!

Some of her teammates.  All these girls play field hockey together as well.

Here is Emily with a long time friend, Kayla.

Emily and Morgan!!

And finally.....after many years and many goofy pictures, I was able to get a beautiful picture of these three together!!  They have been friends for so long.  I love them!

So that about sums it up for the end of school and Spring 2014.
