They won their last regular season game which put them at 8-0 for the season. Then they played in the playoff game against a team they lost to twice last Spring. Cosmos won!!! The following day they played in the Championship game against a team they won against twice this Fall season. Both games, both teams played well and it could have gone either way. They were a good match. We were all unsure how this Championship game would go.
The first half of the game the other team, a Candia, NH team, played strong and scored 2 goals. Feeling defeated at halftime, the Cosmos huddled together for a team chat and came back out at the second half much stronger. They evened up the score, 2-2. In the last 32 or so seconds of the game, Candia scored their winning goal.
We played a team or two this season that showed a lack of sportsmanship and class. This Candia team played well and showed good sportsmanship. When the teams gathered to receive their medals and plaque the Candia Coach spoke to the Cosmos. He said some kind words and congratulated them. Through their tears, the Cosmos cheered on the Candia team as they received their awards. There weren't many dry eyes amongst the Cosmos and their parents.
I am so proud to be a parent of this team!! Callie and her teammates have grown so close and work so well as a team. This Spring will be their last season together as the Cosmos. The Cosmos coaches, Ray Debruin and Kristi Gallagher, have taught them not only how to play the game but how to be teammates and work together. I love all the girls on this team and it has been so much fun to watch them grow into young ladies!! Some of these girls I have known since they were 4 years old when we first moved here.
So, I will finish by posting some pictures I have taken of the last three games! There are a few I have stolen from other parents: Marc Nozell and Kristina Debruin.
